Computers are a huge role in the educational experience because the 21st century is all about new high tech gadgets, what the best new thing we can event today? Students in recent years have been known to spend most of their time on computers, now whether that is to do homework or play some games is the real question. I think that it is amazing what The DOE (U.S. Department of Education) had done, to be able to give so much funding to these schools so they can actually have all these different types of technology in their classroom to use on a every day basis. I can agree with most of issues that were brought up in these chapter just because they are some what fair to teachers with them receiving as much help as possible. However, I don't think i agree with the having to paper grade than let it go through a computer as well, call me odd school but I think computers make mistakes more than a human does.
The ISTE Standard that I found was very interesting and true to my heart was, " Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity." This to me just speaks so loudly for a child to be able to express what they want in many different creative ways is the best form of teaching. I can relate so much to this mainly because I went to a Montessori school and there wan't just one way to learn something we were given many different ways to learn a particular problem, whether it was in a project where we could express something in a group or alone, or more of a hands on activity. One ISTE teaching standard that I don't necessarily see myself liking is, "Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility." This is only because I am not the biggest fan of promoting digital etiquette, students can learning technology if they would like to, I don't want to force a student to learn these technological terms.
I do not agree with the term "digital native" I don't think it suites todays youth. To be a digital native one should know how to use majority of technology but be very skilled in using it as well. Watching most of my teachers use technology I don't want to call them digital immigrants because most of them seem to know what they are doing. I wouldn't want to call myself a digital native either because I don't necessarily know everything there is to know about technology. In the future I hope to not be as up to date with technology that way my students can actually teach me things. I think that is where a great student-teacher relationship comes into play is when a student can successfully teach their teacher something.
I completely agree that things should still be graded by hand.I guess I'm old school too lol

ReplyDeleteI chose the same favorite ISTE standard! I totally agree that creativity is key.
ReplyDeleteI love the ISTE standard you chose too! I'm passionate about inspiring creativity in and out of the classroom!

ReplyDeleteI think you may be the only student who doesn't agree with the terms "digital native" and "digital immigrant," which is cool. I will tell you, we can never be fluent in every technology and application. Its an every-moving target. The best we can do is to constantly try new things.
