Blog Post #2

Microsoft Word, some may call it their best friend and theories may call it their enemy. However to me it is the tool I use to get me through school, it helps me out so much, its a space for me to put thoughts down without wasting paper, or it is there for me to type out my papers. I have learned so many quick techniques to use while writing papers. Shortcuts that can ultimately help in the long run when it comes to waiting till the last miniute for an assignment. Watching my teachers use word was somewhat intruiging because I got to see the different techniques they used and how they were taught to use this program. Some of my teachers were quite experienced when it came to using it.

I haven't had to use copyright yet, but I am sure that I will be using it a lot in the future and I can imagine that it will be very difficult. I can except I will have to use it on lots of lesson plans and test/quizzes in the future for my students. I remember previous teacher talking to me about and saying how pretty much everything they do or use today they have to do some sort of report to submit and have to copyright many things. With fair use of materials I can imagine how annoying it must be to do every little thing from using pictures to uploading things online for your students. As a teacher I am going to have to be very patient and calm when working on things that need to be copyrighting or I may not even use anything that needs to be copyrighted. That would be a very lazy teacher, so I probably will just have to suck it up and make things for my students.

I don't want to sound to confident but I am pretty tech savvy with twitter, so I have yet to learn anything new yet. But my personal learning I have noticed that I am following amazing accounts that I can actually learn things from them. In the future I will be able to incorporate word and twitter to make students use only 140 characters to type things up on word, which I think will be very fun!

Blog Post #1

Computers are a huge role in the educational experience because the 21st  century is all about new high tech gadgets, what the best new thing we can event today? Students in recent years have been known to spend most of their time on computers, now whether that is to do homework or play some games is the real question. I think that it is amazing what The DOE (U.S. Department of Education) had done, to be able to give so much funding to these schools so they can actually have all these different types of technology in their classroom to use on a every day basis. I can agree with most of issues that were brought up in these chapter just because they are some what fair to teachers with them receiving as much help as possible. However, I don't think i agree with the having to paper grade than let it go through a computer as well, call me odd school but I think computers make mistakes more than a human does.

The ISTE Standard that I found was very interesting and true to my heart was, " Facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity." This to me just speaks so loudly for a child to be able to express what they want in many different creative ways is the best form of teaching. I can relate so much to this mainly because I went to a Montessori school and there wan't just one way to learn something we were given many different ways to learn a particular problem, whether it was in a project where we could express something in a group or alone, or more of a hands on activity. One ISTE teaching standard that I don't necessarily see myself liking is, "Promote and model digital citizenship and responsibility." This is only because I am not the biggest fan of promoting digital etiquette, students can learning technology if they would like to, I don't want to force a student to learn these technological terms.

I do not agree with the term "digital native" I don't think it suites todays youth. To be a digital native one should know how to use majority of technology but be very skilled in using it as well. Watching most of my teachers use technology I don't want to call them digital immigrants because most of them seem to know what they are doing. I wouldn't want to call myself a digital native either because I don't necessarily know everything there is to know about technology. In the future I hope to not be as up to date with technology that way my students can actually teach me things. I think that is where a great student-teacher relationship comes into play is when a student can successfully teach their teacher something.

0- My First post

My prior experiences using technology I would say is fairly excellent. I am great at using word documents and making colorful spreads on this application. I have had to do many assignments using word with making a brochure and a menu for various types of things. However I would have to say that my knowledge of using Excel is not that strong. I am not to sure how to make a spread sheet let alone what it is really used for. I am great at power point thought, since I have had many projects related to this.

In this class I would like to learn many new thing one being how to blog more because I think this is such a great opportunity to share ones mind with their peers. I can't wait to learn more about the different types of applications and all the tricks and helpful hints that the teacher has. Or even that my classmates can help me with. I also hope to gain better worth ethics that will be able to help me in the future with my future students. This way I will know what unique tools i can use in my future classroom.

Today I learned about my own learning styles which i thought was very interesting since I knew most of this stuff about myself however there was some things that were new to me. I knew that I was a visual learning because I like more hands on things that can relate to everyday life. However I am not to sure about the other categories they confused me quite a bit. Overall I believe that this test really helped me to understand what my strengths and weakness are as a student.
