Blog Post #7

When making a powerpoint when it comes to using each level of Blooms Taxonomy I would go into great detail. For example, if I was creating a powerpoint for science for first graders and we are learning about space and the solar system. I would start by creating an easy outline for all the students to get familiar with than begin to evaluate each item like each planet in detail and let them know fun facts about it. When analyzing is i was compare how certain planets are similar to certain objects like how pluto was the tinniest planet and say it would be a ping pong ball and earth would be a tennis ball and than saturn would be a basketball. When applying the information I would ask what would happen if you went onto a planet without a space suit and why you couldn't go there without a suit. When it comes to understanding I would show graphic pictures of everything we were learning about and describe each planet in great detail. To get my students to remember all the facts and information I will make fun things to remember so when they think of pluto they will think baby. I want the students to have fun while learning and actually be able to retain the information.

Personally I like adaptive technologies just because some kids may not be as verbal as others and may find technology easier to work with and learn from. Some may argue that it takes away from the teacher but ultimately the point of being a teacher is to get your student to actually learn, and I think regardless of how you do this as long as you can achieve it than you will be successful and so will the student. Chapter 4 of the book talks about how students with intellectual disabilities may like to use more computer and iPad based technology and touch screen type devices. I believe that the child should make the decision to use this and if they think that it will keep them focused and learning what they should be learning than why not let them use it.
I really enjoyed making the the website and it was super easy to use, however I did a tutorial before I actually made my presentation and I believe that helped me a lot more than I was expecting. I wish that this website had more options to make graphics more interactive with the viewers. In the future I will be using this design set because it will be super helpful for myself and my students!

  1. I agree that it is important to give student's some sort of autonomy when choosing whether they want to use technology. The teacher's role is still important to scaffold and assist the student in any form of learning.

  2. Laurel,
Good idea doing a Weebly tutorial before creating your site.

You have good ideas for Power Point but flip the actor. Bloom's is from the student's perspective; the child is creating, evaluating...
