Blog Post #6

This is surprising seeing all the different types of information that these teachers have posted on their classroom websites. Some teacher have homework links posted and for the students to print out and submitting online. Depending on the grade the different "fun" link that are posted for learning. Also I noticed that some teachers have documents for the teachers to tell the parents about instead of sending it home with the student they can just print it form their home. Some teachers even have their classroom schedule with what the days agenda included based on the day of the week and what special they may go to. Lots of the teachers have public photos of their students in the classroom and different projects/activities that they are doing in the class. Even some teachers have what they did in class that day if the student missed class. The school that I found all of this on is called The Haverford school which is JrK-12th. http://www.haverford.org/students/teacher-pages/index.aspx

I can see myself using all types of technology to accomplish my professional responsibilities, I will be using the tools of organization with Microsoft office suit will help with spreadsheets and communications tasks. With planning my lessons using technology tools and I hope that all my materials will be digital for all templates of lesson plans with bookmarking and making sure that I can keep track of all of the lessons I will use in future years to come. There are many free versions online through various websites that we have been exposed to in class that I hope will help me in the future of my classrooms. Using electronic spreadsheets will be very helpful and keep me on topic and focused in each days lesson. I can also give these or email them to the parents of my students and that way they know what we are working on each day.
Navigating this website was not difficult at all, although getting the hang of it at first was a little confusing. However I figured it out with no problems and was able to communicate to group members and work it out. However just because I know how to use it does not necessarily mean that I like every aspect that it has to offer. The adding paged could be a little simpler instead of going through a two step process, it could just simply have add a page. I will be using websites similar to this one with being able to post things for the students or even having my students have to do a group project on post together but at their own time. I did like how this had options like a blog.

Blog Post #5

Web 2.0 sound like amazing resources to use in the classroom, I would mosts likely be using them regardless of the ELA standards. I think using twitter in the classroom is a great tool! A teacher can have    the students follow specific people or organization that they are learning about that week. I think this is a great opportunity for students to get involved with social media while at the same time is be very educational. They can actually have fun while learning, and this saddens me but it is actually true because students complaint that they are not having as much fun as we think they are. For the different types of equipment necessary for this Web 2.0 technology one would obviously need a system unit. As the textbook talks about all of these different processing ports and speeds and access memory, it would be very vital for you to get in contact with you media specialist or technology specialist because they usually know what you will need.

There are so many different interesting web 2.0 tools that i would love to use while teaching, I obviously talked about twitter a little above, but twitter has so many other unique tools to offer. You can reply to someone in your class about a topic that you may be discussing. It is such a unique way to use social media for its primary purpose is to keep the class learning. However, there are many other interesting tools of technology that we can use in our classroom another being wiki.
Wiki is primarily used in the classroom for group projects. The difference between this and a blog there are many different factors. Although blogs can be used for communicating as well as Wiki, Wiki is used for collaborating with other students. They can share with their classmates all the different types of information or even have their friends give them feedback. Their is an option for them to invite other students to work on the specific project as well. The podcast also mentioned Diiago, I know that we touched on this in class quite a bit but I really do encourage teachers to use this tool in their classroom. It has a great social media aspect to it and also allows students to ask their teachers questions online or even their friends. There are many online resources to this website and it will ultimately further the child's education in the long run.

Using this software Webspiration Classroom really helped me to see that it is extremely difficult to use technology. I did like how many different options there was to making a simple concept map, however it was challenging figuring all that out since we did go in basically blind about everything. Not having clear instructions on how to actually use this website was a extremely difficult but after I played around a lot I kind of got the hang of it and just making it look pretty was the only difficult part. I can see my self using this in the future with my students not necessarily for concept mapping a review study guide but for fun things that I was my students to be excited to learn about.

Blog Post #4

A Standard that I chose was for #rd graders under the English Language Arts. I chose the Reading Standard. LAFS.3.RF Reading Standards: Foundational Skills (K-5) in cluster 3 LAFS.3: Phonics and Word Recognition.
-Know and apply grade-level phonics and word analysis skills in decoding words.
  1. Identify and know the meaning of the most common prefixes and derivational suffixes.
  2. Decode words with common Latin suffixes.
  3. Decode multisyllable words.
  4. Read grade-appropriate irregularly spelled words.
The classification tool that i chose that corresponds with the standard is the Tutorial software, because it will be able to teach the student things and help them review lessons without going back to the teacher and asking questions that may have already been answered.

Throughout high school I have had many encounters to mistyping a specific website and it lead me to a whole new site that was wrong and I was very confused. Like how the podcast said therefor a while teachers would tell their students to go to whitehouse.gov but students would accidentally type whitehouse.com and that would lead them to an X-rated website, so making sure you relay the correct information to your students a extremely important. With the ABCDT rule I really had no idea what it was until listening to the podcast and now I have a much better understand of it. With understanding the resource and making sure all is accurate and the author is used and the images of the website. This makes me realize that sites need to be evaluated when making  a website and making sure it is stable. I realized that it is in my best interest to do my research well before I make a website in the future.

Working on this assignment I realized how many different opportunities there are to search things on the internet. I have realized have i gained so many new skills working on the Web Hunt assignment but creating a hyperlink. Also I learned that it may be very difficult to find something that you want to show your classroom, since you may be looking for a specific presentation or information to show your class and that not every is free on the internet. If you were to want to teach your children a new programming software their may not be access to it without purchasing this. I was shocked how many softwares that were available online for free just because if you look hard you can find unique programs to share with your students. Okay class, I would like you to find a software that can be a blog but also post grades online, while being able to post presentations. The second task I would like you to complete is to find a child friendly video of the solar system, Good luck! :)

The ELA technology standards that I feel I am most prepared to teach would be the "Consuming" Tech standards, "Integrate and evaluate". This to me would have to be the easiest standard just being a visual learner I feel that it is so much easier to teach students through media and present certain presentations in more of a fun way rather than just reading the textbook. Also using the "Producing" Tech standards in "Use Digital Media" also seems pretty simple in using without having an background on it. Using the audio recordings and stories of poems and drawings seem self explanatory as they are written in the standards that I believe I will be able to easily teach to my future students. The standards that I may need more preparation on is the "Integrate and Evaluate" Standards and the "Vocabulary: Use Context Clue" standards. To me both of these have to deal with making sure you understand the meaning of words and definitions and to be able to break down and evaluate each term. Overall the standards seem self explanatory to me and I am very excited to use them in the classroom.

Reading this chapter really taught me a lot about the different types of applications and softwares that teachers have access to, and that is great to have such a widespread of opportunities. I would love to use the video conferencing software where you can video chat with another classroom that may be on the other side of the world. I remember doing this in middle school with students in another state and it was the most intriguing opportunity I had as a student and if I am able to offer this to my future students I think it would really help learning in the classroom. "Students can demonstrate the technology skills necessary to use and participate on the Web," this digital citizenship guideline will need to be addressed to my suture students because I plan on teaching  3rd grade and younger and they do need to learn how to navigate on the web and be able to find specific information.

I am slowly realizing that I am not as skilled on word as I thought I was. I realize that this is a very difficult assignment and that I need to keep editing it. At the moment I am not currently done with it but I think I have a decent idea of what i should be doing it will just be figuring out how to input it all onto word, that will be the difficult part. I can most defiently see myself using this process in the future for my students. I plan on having a Newsletter going out every month, it will be very helpful to the parents and to see if they are interested in getting involved in the classroom.
